Lord of the ThunderCats by KwongBee-Arts Lord of the ThunderCats by KwongBee-Arts
well this one took the better part of my 2 days off this week to complete. it started with the simple copic marker art i used a photo of a live model as reference for liono and changed it of course into the lord of thundera. then i scaned the final work into the computed and hand painted a starfield highlighted background for him in corel painter. i made i somewhat blured to give it some depth. i hink the final product came out quite well what to you think?

The colored line art without the digital background

There's something vaguely homoerotic about this. I DON'T mean that in a bad way. I actually think it's more interesting than the usual "barbarian" portrayal of Lion-O. Dude's based on a big cat. He SHOULD be sort of sleek and sexy. Well done.

Hmm. Now that I've looked at the rest of your gallery, I gather that's what you were going for. :p

Yay for nostalgy!
I like this piece, the background adds to the whole picture, but without a background it is also really nice!

Loved the way you colored him. Looks like something straight out of a comic book. Never saw Thundercats when I was growing up though >.>;

oh nostalgia.
and I actually prefer the version without the background, though this is also a pretty nice job.

They're both neat, each in their own way. The white background is simple and clean, but the stars add a cool feel to it. I like your color choices, they're bright and colorful, and the fact that you've used a mixture of traditional and digital techniques. :)

You have a great sense of depth and I think the coloring looks good =) Though I'd agree with another who mentioned that they liked the one with white background better. That one is definitely cleaner and more appealing.

such a great pose! you were able to impose the colored line art just as great as it also not opposes much to the original drawing. great work! ^^

:iconcellinara: said in a wonderful critique to me in the forums the followin i had to post this here for all to read
Devious Rating *****

A certain long haired superhero with a blue armor is drawn. A very well shaded six pack can bee seen. Light is from the frontal side .A space void is the background ,seems like a cool galaxy hero. Not humanly, either from some other planet or a gifted superhero. Nice wavy red haired guy. This os what I have derived from the image .do tell me if I am wrong anywhere,as I will be giving a critique with this view.
No faults in the sketch, clear differentiation between the center object and background. A fine ideal lighting,no problem is spae and dimention hence.
In my opinion a perfect piece of drawing
Is creativity like your second name or something ? Maan ! So cool !

Don't take this the wrong's meant to be critique and not 'bashing'.

When you start your initial drawings, they're simple and crisp. The one without the background is, by far, the better piece because it gives us what we need - an amazingly life-like fantasy character with all the elements that make it what it is. The giant 'Cats symbol in back gives us a nice focal point for the foreground figure and grounds the overall piece.

Then...the starfield background is added and the piece begins to look overwrought and too "worked". It's busy and distracting because it isn't clear and the blur seems to add to the "muddy" feeling it gives. Then, add in the blurred "aura" of the pinkish-reddish light and the "muddy" effect is amplified.

Sometimes "simple" is best. In this case, a gradient background or something simple would have worked best and given your drawing a clean, strong place to be.

i appreciate your opinion and you have clearly stated in the past in the superman and captian america pieces that you are not a fan of fusion works or marker art that has been accented by digital backgrounds. this is not a field i intend to abandon any time soon. if you like the piece with the simplistic white background that is your privledge, that is why i posted the plain piece. but i feel the final piece with the star field is a stronger more professional looking piece. sorry that you do not care for it but there are many that do.

Nice work, the shading is really well done! The anatomy is realistic and the whole image is crisp and nicely drawn. Good work :D

very nice job on the coloring and shading on this one! I really like his expression as well. I have to say I like the one without the background though. Not because the backgrounds bad, but just because I have simplistic tastes in art I guess lol :D anyways, good job!

I love how you did the gradient lighting, I personally wouldn't have thought to convey it like that because I don't have enough experience with coloring in general : P A very nice shiny, oily body xDDD
